Below is a list of the Electives being offered for the 2007-2008 school year. Sixth graders should put a number 1 in PE as this is a mandatory course for sixth graders. Then put a number 2 for your elective.
Seventh and Eighth graders should select 2 courses putting a number 1 in your first choice and a number 2 in your second choice.
________Physical Education is a course that provides students with experiences which result in the development of the body as well as the mind. Through well-organized instructional activities, students develop health and fitness, coordination, and motor skills. The Physical Education course will introduce organized sports, individual sports, health, and first aid, as well as providing physical fitness testing. Students also learn about fitness and developing a healthy lifestyle.
Offered Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays.
________Spanish 1 is a course designed to introduce four skill areas to the student: listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. The history and the culture of the people are discussed. Students should have at least a C average in English. Offered Tuesdays and Thursday.
________Spanish 2 is a course designed to continue developing and working on the skills learned in Spanish 1. Offered Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays.
________Technology/Yearbook is an instructional program that provides students with daily hands-on/exploratory experiences and insights into technology. Students are expected to learn basic terminology and computer skills. Basic Keyboarding techniques are taught with emphasize on correct finger placement and exercises to improve accuracy, and speed. Part of the year is spent in developing and publishing a school yearbook. Offered Tuesdays and Thursday.
________Life Skills is a course of study that addresses issues at a level to which students can relate. It introduces students to areas of relationships (personal and family), child care, consumer issues, personal space, nutrition and eating habits, health and wellness, clothing management and grooming skills, and career exploration. Offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
