Mission Statement

St. Mary’s Catholic School in Lawton, OK, exists to teach children to achieve academic excellence and to know, love and serve God by serving others.

Dear Parents,

All of us who knew Theresa Steinert are still in mourning.  However, in light of the tragic loss of a good person, it made me think of how many of us, at times, let our trivial problems get in the way of simple courtesy and kindness.  As I was praying during Mass shortly after Theresa’s funeral, I thought of a passage from the June 8, 2008 Missal on the Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.  The preface of the readings read as follows, “The final line of today's Gospel sets the tone the scriptures will echo in the coming weeks: "I did not come to call the righteous but sinners.”  Sometimes we coast through a humdrum life, not really reflecting on our attitudes and actions.  This kind of unconsciousness can lead us into a complacency that can be likened to the self-righteousness exhibited by the Pharisees in today's Gospel.  We can look around us and judge the behaviors of others without first taking a good hard look at our own.  The Lord came to save us from our sinful behaviors and attitudes.  As this long portion of the Church's Ordinary Time opens before us, let us cast off complacency and self-righteousness and name our own sins, asking the Lord to deliver us from the power these sins hold over us.”

                               Yours in Christ,

                                  John Mizelle
